Co-op Scoops

Eat Local Challenge

Tidal Creek Co-op will host its annual Eat Local Challenge throughout the month of June to raise awareness and encourage eating of locally grown foods. Participants in the challenge may pledge the percentage of locally grown foods that they will add to their plates, and Tidal Creek will provide resources and products to support them in reaching their goal. One such resource is Eat Local, America! – an online community hosted by food co-ops across the country that provides a forum for engaging with food growers and producers in our region, and to learn about the bounty of foods produced locally. To learn more about the challenge nationwide, visit eatlocalamerica.coop, and look there for blog posts from our very own Kathryn Sisler. You will find these and many more resources available at Tidal Creek, along with encouragement to sign up for the challenge and support to participate at the level of your choice. Tidal Creek Co-op defines local foods as those grown, caught or produced in North Carolina or within a 400 mile radius. Peak harvest season is here, and Tidal Creek is stocked with the freshest, highest quality local products available to help you enjoy a summer of delicious seasonal foods.

Tidal Creek Cooperative Twin Pines Community Fund

To be eligible for funding, a group must: be an IRS certified non-profit organization; work in New Hanover, Brunswick or Pender Counties, NC; work in one of the four focus areas; and agree to submit a press release to local media and otherwise publicize the award, and submit a brief statement of accomplishment to Tidal Creek by the following July 1st. No politically or religiously affiliated organizations will be considered. Applications are available at the Tidal Creek Customer Service Desk or by contacting Christina@tidalcreek.coop.
