From the Mailbag

Q: I’m concerned the edamame in your soba noodles on the salad bar is not organic. If so, they be GMO’s, which is not good. Please use organic edamame.

A: We do use organic edamame, Woodstock Farm brand.

Q: I noticed the bulk containers are #5 plastic and Wilmington does not recycle them. I will bring my own!

A: Thanks for the feedback. We are not pleased either to use #5 plastic. We are currently investigating best prices on green packaging and cutlery and hope to be able to offer a solution. In the meantime, bringing your own reduces waste.  We’ll take the tare of the container at any of the registers. There is also a scale at the bulk section. Use a sticker to label the containers weight and you’re on your way.

Q: I have a gluten allergy and would like to see you carry soba noodles that are made with buckwheat, not buckwheat/wheat mix. Thanks!

A: 100% buckwheat soba noodle

Q: Wolfgang Puck soups are 2 for $4 at Harris Teeter and $2.99 at the Co-op. Why?

A: With us being a small, local store we do not have the buying power of a large chain grocer. Therefore, we do not get a large volume discount like they do. Additionally, we do beat large chains on organic produce, juices, some dairy, and bulk, just to name a few. Compare and see.
