Making sure their animals are healthy and happy is a top priority for Marie and Tom Wallace. The couple started Grassy Ridge Farm in 2004, and since then has been selling their eggs faster than they can keep up.
Tom was raised on a farm and had always wanted to return to farming, but for Marie, starting and working on a farm has been a totally new experience. She raises the chickens herself to ensure they are treated well from the beginning. Laying hens are fed all-natural feed and are moved on an organic pasture weekly so they can forage for insects and grass.
In addition to their hot-selling, farm-fresh, brown eggs, Grassy Ridge also sells pastured poultry and pork, as well as a large variety of produce throughout the year. Like the chickens, hogs are also on pasture and are able to go to the creek and lay in the mud.
Grassy Ridge Farm was one of the first vendors at the downtown Riverfront Farmers’ Market in Wilmington, and can still be found there every week. Look for their delicious eggs in the perishable section at Tidal Creek Co-op.
