How to Request to be a REAL CHANGE Recipient: Please fill out the downloadable PDF application form and return it to our Customer Service desk or email it to katie@tidalcreek.coop. The recipient calendar has been established through June 2015. Recipients will be voted on in late May and announced in early June for the July 2014 – June 2015 year.

One major benefit of Co-ops such as Tidal Creek here in Wilmington, NC is our ability to be a contributing member of our local and global community. We do this not only by supporting local farmers and vendors, but also by supporting local charities. Here are a few things weÕve been up to lately.
REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register
Our first year with our REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register Customer Donation Program was a huge success! The funds will make a real difference to the recipients. Feast Down East and Cape Fear River Watch were selected as the recipients for the 2013-2014 year received over $2,000 in donations!

This year we put out a call for applicants in May to be recipients of the REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register donations for the 2014-2015 year. We received applications from 4 great local organizations and put the fun task of voting out to our staff, Owners, and customers. The organizations shared on their social media pages as well, and 212 people voted and left all kinds of amazing comments about the program in support of these amazing local groups. Jones Family Farm
From now until December 31, 2014, your REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register donations will go towards the Jones Family Farm. This local family farm operated solely by Jeremiah Jones, his wife Joann, and their 5 daughters. You can find their eggs and chicken at Tidal Creek! The Jones family will use your donations for their many projects to close the gap in farm sustainability, and they are trying to buy a dairy cow, so any funds we raise will go a long way towards helping them accomplish this!
Ocean Cure
Starting January 1st, 2015, your REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register donations will be given to Ocean Cure. This local non-profit’s goal is to better the quality of life for people challenged with disabilities and economic struggles through surfing and stand-up paddle boarding. They plan to use your REAL CHANGE donations to purchase two beach wheelchairs and two adapted surfboards. Donations for Ocean Cure will conclude in June 2015, after which a new donation recipient will be selected!
World Fair Trade Day yields $8,724 donation to Root Capital!
We are pleased to announce that our World Fair Trade Day cause promotion, featured in the May Co+op Deals flyer, exceeded our fundraising goal. A cause promotion is one that involves cooperative efforts between for-profit businesses and non-profits to raise funds and awareness for a shared cause. The promotion was supported by Alaffia, Dr. BronnerÕs Magic Soaps, and Equal Exchange, each of whom pledged to donate one percent of sales during the promotional period (or a minimum of $3,500) to Root Capital, a nonprofit social investment fund that lends capital, provides financial training, and strengthens market conditions for small producers in Africa and Latin America. The promotion resulted in a donation of $4,362, which was matched by the National Cooperative Grocers Association, for a grand total of nearly $9,000.
The National Cooperative Grocers Association (NCGA) is a parent Co-op that Tidal Creek belongs to, along with many other Co-ops all across the country.
