The holiday season is a season of festivities, merriment, and tacky sweater parties. December gives you all the reasons youÕll ever need to throw an amazing party. New to hosting? Never thrown one before? Not to worry! Here are 3 steps to ensure that your upcoming festivities are absolutely epic in portions and proportions.
Step #1: Make food for every dieter.
This often goes unnoticed, right till the last moment, either when a friendÕs or relativeÕs face goes down looking at all that food that they canÕt have, or when they start exhibiting digestive distress because they cannot tolerate whatever delicious intolerance they just consumed.
Wilmington is a melting pot of dietary preferences and lifestyles, making it easy for people to feel left out. A person being left out at a party is very uncool, so be sure to put together a meat, cheese or fruit tray for all those people who cannot eat gluten ridden foods. Consider making your some of your baked goods with egg and dairy substitutes so that your vegan friends can enjoy them too! Sound hard? No worries, thereÕs a hack for that.
Alternatively, you can pick up some specialty foods from your local baker. Our Caf at Tidal Creek Co-op makes many dishes that are vegan, egg-free, nut-free, and/or gluten-free for people who suffer from food allergies and intolerances. On top of that, Tidal Creek has holiday party platters that can be made gluten-free, vegan, or both! (Click here for details.) Looking for something more unique? Ask our chef to make something for you.
Step #2: Whatever it is, present it with flare.
You have ensured that everyone can eat, now itÕs time to dress up your food so that it looks just too tempting to ignore! Display is extremely important. With the proper display, even saltine crackers and spray cheese look like a fancy, decadent dish. (That may be an exaggeration, but you get the point.)
For starters (pun intended), did you know that putting food on white platters instantly gives it a far fancier look? Also, white serving platters go with almost everything! They can dress a table up when paired with festive china, or be paired with wooden candle holders and used in combination with a rustic look.
There are countless ways to creatively dress up a plane table. Put some candles in glass jars and tie the rim with twine for decoration. Stick Christmas lights under a white table cloth, or stuff them in jars to create a beautiful makeshift luminary. Put cranberries in a clear glass with floating tea lights for a pop of red. The possibilities are endless!
Dressing up your party takes little effort but makes a big difference. Your guests will appreciate the time you took to make the party sparkle!
Step #3: Have a wine tasting.
Wines usually go on sale this time of the year, which means that you can get some pretty good deals and indulge in some holiday wine tasting! Wine tastings are a fun activity for guests that they can participate in while mingling. ItÕs a great way to get conversations going between people and works well as an organic ice-breaker. Check out these 5 steps for wine tasting like a pro, even if you never have.
Make sure to check out the huge wine sale at Tidal Creek, where you are sure to find something that will suit your palate while browsing the selection of lovely local and imported wines.
