Voting will take place in-store September 19th Ð October 2nd!
Meet Kelsey Gibbs and learn more about how she would like to help make a difference in our community!
Are you an Owner?
Yes.
What is your favorite Tidal Creek Co-op product or food?
Favorite future product: CBD oil. I have not tried this specific product but support the idea and have seen similar products heal skin cancer on a family member. It’s a BIG DEAL.
Favorite current product: Bulk maple syrup, my go-to sweetener, and I can bring my own container to avoid packaging waste and store it in glass.
How often do you shop at the Co-op?
Usually once or twice a day, it’s on my route.
Have you ever volunteered or worked at the Co-op?
No
Do you have any experience sitting on a Board of Directors?
Yes, I was elected last year for a one-year term on the Board of Directors and I would love to continue.
What unique skills or perspective do you feel you would bring to the Board?
I’m always looking for information and researching food for health and health of the environment. I spend a decent amount of energy trying to learn about this corporate and chemical mess of a food system we’re caught up in. We’re all trying to navigate this world the best we can, I want to turn my frustrations into solutions and I definitely can’t do that alone.
What is your reason or motivation to run for the Board of Directors?
Unfinished business! Tidal Creek is in the middle of an important transition. How to support the community’s needs, in what location, what products, and how do we fund it. This venture goes deep, I’m in it, and even if I wasn’t re-elected I’d still go to the meetings as an owner. With the whole move, my original motivation to run for the Board has been put on the back burner. I’m in the baby stages of organizing a subcommittee to come up with policy suggestions that would help reduce our waste. By talking to folks in the bulk section I’ve met a handful of owners that are intested in this effort, if you are please email me kelsey@tidalcreek.coop.
What makes Tidal Creek Coop Important to you?
The cooperative model. Suppoting the community. Organic & local food. Bulk bin options. BANDANA BILL.
Are you able to donate the time necessary to be an effective Board member?
Yes, I haven’t missed a meeting. With the upcoming move, more time will need to be devoted and I’m ready for that.
What else would you like Tidal Creek Co-op Owners to know about you?
I’ve owned The Wonder Shop, at 22 N. Front St, for about four years. We specialize in vintage clothing and love providing environmentally friendly fashions. I do what I can to reduce waste and buy second-hand in my day-to-day business operations. I don’t eat animals or animal products and am a spaz about avoiding packaging waste when shopping to work towards more of a zero-waste lifestyle. It really isn’t ZERO-waste…I still pay the power company, drvie downtown everyday, and have an iPhone which I have to update every 3+ years…but hey, the trash thing, it’s the low hanging fruit. I love being a part of Tidal Creek, I’ve met a lot of great friends and smart, passionate people. I hope together we can have a positive influence.
Good luck Kelsey!
