People suffering from physical disabilities and those going through economic hardships often have to suffer from cycles of pain, depression, and stress that are hard to get over. A lot of people in these scenarios are given to the impression that many types of outdoor activities are simply not an option for them. However, one local nonprofit is committed to ensuring that such persons can enjoy the great outdoors – for free!

What Exactly Does Ocean Cure Do And How Can I Help?

Ocean Cure’s Mission

Ocean Cure, a local nonprofit organization has come up with a unique idea to help people suffering from physical disability to enjoy a nice day out at the beach with their friends and family. A 501c3 organization, Ocean CureÕs ultimate mission is Òto better the quality of life for those with disabilities through surfing.Ó

Ocean Cure strongly believes in the oceanÕs power to heal and is the recipient of our REAL CHANGE Round Up at the Register Customer Donation Program for the next 6 months. They have also partnered with Life Rolls On, which is dedicated to providing people with spinal cord injuries a way to experience life to the fullest using action sports, and the Wounded Warrior Program which provides rehabilitation services to service men and women who were injured in the line of duty.

Ocean Cure is based in Carolina Beach, and has been rapidly expanding. Their qualified instructors help participants through the waves, and partake in adventures that are both rejuvenating and highly empowering.

How You Can Help Ocean Cure

They are currently raising funds to buy two Mobi chairs, which are essentially floating beach wheelchairs that are designed to help disabled people into water, and two adapted surfboards. The armrest and wheels on the chair are composed of lightweight floatation materials that enable the chair to float on water. The chair provides a seamless transition from boardwalk, to beach to water, and is indeed a very useful piece of equipment when you consider the advantages that it brings to those who are physically challenged.

The benefits such a chair offers to disabled people are quite obvious. Enabling disabled people to enjoy a day at the beach with their friends and family is certainly a great thing!

You can help Ocean Cure to fund these chairs by rounding up your change at the register when you make a purchase at the Co-op. ItÕs that simple! Tidal Creek has raised thousands of dollars for different local charities through the REAL CHANGE Round Up At The Register Donation Program. Help us raise even more for Ocean Cure!
