  • 1 tablespoon of almond butter

  • 1 tablespoon of flax meal

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 tablespoon, raw, honey

  • 2 cups of milk (any milk will work: coconut milk, almond milk, cow’s milk, etc.)

2. Fruity Juicy Smoothie

A simple way to enjoy summer fruits in a way that will curb your sweet tooth. The sweetness of the banana and the slight tartness of strawberries combine to create a not-so-subtle drink fit for anyone:

  • 1 cup orange juice (for the best taste, choose not-from concentrate or squeeze your own.)

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup of strawberries

3. Peachy Keen Smoothie

This smoothie is sweet, yet full of nutrition! A trick of the trade, this creation will have your taste buds thinking milkshake while your body benefits from natural sweeteners.

  • 1 Banana

5. TropiYogurt Smoothie

This smoothie screams summer fun. Try it with Greek yogurt for a protein boost!

  • 2 cups of mixed tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, pineapple, avocado, banana, and guava

  • 1 cup of plain yogurt

  • 1/4-1/2 cup of orange juice

6. Green Goddess Smoothie

The answer to getting your greens in at every meal. It is especially beneficial as an addition to a usually carbohydrate and sugar loaded meal such as breakfast. This is also a fantastic way to get kids to eat greens. The ingredients in this recipe are easily adaptable, but here’s how we would do it:

  • First, blend one cup of cranberry juice and one cup of water with two cups of spinach (any greens will actually work, even romaine lettuce or kale, but spinach has a great texture and a mild flavor that works well in smoothies)

  • Then add one banana, and one cup of frozen berries, and blend.

Other helpful smoothie tricks:

Ice can be added to any smoothie, but it will water down the taste. Instead, try freezing ice cube trays with various juices, and using that to cool off your smoothie.

A high-quality blender is really the way to ensure a great smoothie, but if you don’t have one, don’t fret. Just be patient, and know that you may have to add a bit more liquid to your smoothies. They will still taste great!

Smoothies are an easy way to get kids involved in cooking, since all they require is dumping things in a blender! For a green smoothie, don’t hide the greens. Instead, make sure your kids know that they are drinking healthy green vegetables. Once they realize that a green smoothie is delicious, they may be more open to eating green vegetables in other ways.
